Tom Bogaert’s artworks are rooted in his social and human right law background and question contemporary politics, social mores, and Western ideological supremacy.

He had his first solo exhibition in 2008 with the legendary ‘Jack the Pelican Presents’ gallery and relocated to Amman, Jordan soon thereafter. 

Recent solo exhibitions include bb15 artspace and afo architekturforum oberösterreich in Linz, Austria (2021); Ivuka Arts, Kigali, Rwanda (2019); Espaco Gallery, Algiers, Algeria (2017); The Ultra Lab & Galerie FJ, Casablanca, Morocco (2016); Maison de la Culture, Sidi Bouzid, Tunisia (2015); Medrar for Contemporary Art, Cairo, Egypt (2014); and al Hoash Gallery, Jerusalem (2012).

His work has been presented at Villa Les Zéphyrs in Westende, Belgium (2021); ZK/U – Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik in Berlin, Germany (2020); the Lagos Biennial, Nigeria (2019); the Ghetto Biennale in Port-au-Prince, Haiti (2019); Qalandiya International the Palestinian Biennial, Jerusalem (2018); Queens Museum and Flux Factory, New York, US (2018); the Bardo National Museum, Tunis, Tunisia (2017); the Contemporary Art Centre of Thessaloniki, Greece (2017); SAVVY Contemporary and Transart Triennale, Berlin, Germany (2016); and Smack Mellon, New York, US (2015). He won first prize at the Videoex film festival in Zurich, Switzerland for his experimental documentary about the legendary jazz pioneer Sun Ra and his infamous visit to Egypt (pepsi, cola, water? 2015).

Tom Bogaert is one half of the collaborative Haitian Belgian art duo Lafleur & Bogaert. In 2019 they were awarded first prize by juror Ylinka Barotto —curator at the Guggenheim in NYC— for their ‘Famasi Mobil Kongolè’ and recently they were selected for a 2022 Revolution residency at the Santa Fe Art Institute in New Mexico, US. In the summer of 2022 Michel Lafleur & Tom Bogaert will participate in documenta fifteen in Kassel, Germany as part of Atis Rezistans / Ghetto Biennale.
